The Safety & Health Program is the basis for a complete safety program compliant with OSHA and most states, however there are some additional items to consider:

If you perform specialty work outside the scope of the standard Safety & Health program, please review the table of contents available for the Safety & Health Program – Specialized Chapters to see if these chapters will cover your work. Typically, in most states the Safety & Health Program, along with the Hazard Communication Program are the minimum required safety programs for state and federal OSHA programs.

Tool Box Talks, sometimes referred to as Tailgate Meetings are useful for those employers who want to have a codified weekly safety meeting with verification of attendance. 

Some states require more management policies and procedures, most notably the creation of a Safety Committee. These policies are covered under the Safety Policies Program. These States are:

          Pennsylvania                                                          makes employer eligible for WC discounts
          Tennessee                                                              firms in top 25% in claims experience
          Utah                                                                        required for all firms
          Washington                                                             firms of 10 employees or more at worksite 
          West Virginia                                                          firms which are high hazard or poor performing
