What are the advantages/ disadvantages of a “Turn-Key” safety program over a downloaded safety program?
There are two basic differences. By downloading the safety programs, your given a set of chapters that should work for you in most cases, however you may decide you need to add/ delete certain chapters to make the program more appropriate to your type of work. You then will insert some company information into the MSWord documents. The other difference, of course is that you will have to print out the program(s), purchase binders, indexes, print the indexes, make binder book covers, and assemble all.
With the Turn-Key option, I will guide you through a phone interview, and determine what chapters/ packages are appropriate for your work, and who may be reviewing the program. I will collect all necessary information by phone - there is no online purchasing required. We will then produce and ship the binders complete with your logo and company information, along with providing a free CD of Federal and State workplace posters in .PDF format for printing. Turn-Key programs are available in three packages with an option for all final documents/ indexes/ covers on CD for your use.
How long does it take to get a safety program?
Turn-Key program sets may ship the same day, or at least by the next day. Next day shipping is available at an extra cost, otherwise program sets are shipped USPS Priority mail with 2-3 day shipping. Downloaded programs of course may be conformed and burned to CD, or e-mailed almost instantly, but for physical binders will usually take about ½ day to gather the materials, print and assemble.
How large are these safety programs?
This of course can vary, especially if you add or delete chapters as you see fit, however most Safety & Health Programs are typically 200-250 pages. Hazard Communication Programs are typically 100-110 pages, however only a small portion is required to be onsite, a substantial portion of the program includes regulatory text and a glossary of terms for MSDS training. The Safety Policies Program is typically about 110 pages, and the Company Tool Box Talks binder is about 260-275 pages (approx. 250 tool box talks).
Are these safety programs approved by Federal and State OSHA?
While OSHA can’t specifically approve anything, these programs have been reviewed and found acceptable by OSHA compliance officers many times, and in many states, and in fact have never been found unacceptable by any OSHA office. In addition, these programs have been found acceptable to the largest contractors/ owners in the nation, and many independent reviewing agencies (PICS for instance). As of this writing, the programs are being reviewed to be acceptable to ISNetworld, so if you are submitting to this agency, please call for the latest status.
What should I do when I get a safety program?
So many site owners, general contractors and construction managers require a copy of your safety program, I recommend that you present a CD copy of the program at least at the preconstruction conference, if not with your bid. In times past, it was common to have to submit a physical binder, but virtually everyone will accept it in electronic format. Naturally, in your own organization, you need to ensure your employees have access to, and understand how to find this safety information. This may mean creating additional copies for some jobs, or at least having the manuals in an accessible place in your office. There are some specific items that are required to be in each workplace, and these are listed in your instructions.
Is this material copyrighted?
Absolutely! However, I give you a copyright release letter to allow you complete use to reprint all materials as much as you desire for your own use, or to submit to an owner, GC, etc. You would not be permitted to resell, or convey these materials to another for profit or another’s use.
Are updates available? Is there an extra cost for this?
We provide free updates/ addendums for clients through e-mail. When a significant OSHA regulation change occurs, I send this information out to all clients as an addendum or chapter revision. This of course may or may not affect your particular organization - you will have to review it and decide for yourself.
What if my business changes names, personnel, or even type of work?
In cases where you have the CD of documents, changes may be easily made and reprinted. If you have a Turn-Key program set, and find you need additional chapters for other type of work activities, please call, and I’ll send any needed chapters at no charge. For downloaded programs, an additional chapters set is available.
How does your 100% No-Risk guarantee work?
Since I’ve been writing safety programs since 1991 (the first for my own construction company), I’ve had virtually no requests for a refund - in fact the only refund requests I can remember was when a contractor went out of business, a distributor company felt the manuals has too much information, and one where the person ordering was unauthorized (you get the picture).
In short, I’m confident that you will be satisfied with these products. My guarantee is simple: if there is anything not right, I’ll make it right or you may return the product within 30 days of ordering for a full refund on your credit card purchase. Now in reality, you’re completely protected in that if you didn’t receive a refund, you could always dispute the credit card purchase. I feel this is a workable, fair system of checks and balances.
